We are hiring Medical Assistants for busy Dermatology and Orthopaedic practices on Long Island, part of a large academic medical group. These are temp-to-hire roles – a great way into a permanent position with a supportive team.
Where and when
- Dermatology – Stony Brook, Riverhead and Commack (some roles split the week between offices)
- Orthopaedics – Lake Grove, with occasional coverage in Commack
- Full time, Monday to Friday, day shifts (7:30 AM-4:00 PM or 8:30 AM-5:00 PM depending on the office; Orthopaedics between 7:00 AM and 7:00 PM)
- Some floating between offices for coverage
What you will do
- Room patients and document vitals, medications and the reason for the visit in the EMR
- Take height, weight, blood pressure, pulse and temperature
- Set up patients and equipment for exams and procedures, and assist providers
- Collect blood and lab specimens and perform routine lab tests
- Enter proposed orders for provider review and obtain outside test results
- Explain treatment, medication and care instructions to patients
- Clean and sterilize instruments, keep exam rooms stocked, and order supplies
- Help with scheduling and phones; follow HIPAA and OSHA guidelines
What you need
- High school diploma or GED
- Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant program (certification preferred)
- EMR experience and comfort with computers
- 1 year of medical assisting experience preferred; phlebotomy a plus
- A warm, reassuring manner – dermatology includes sensitive full-body skin exams
- Reliable transportation to travel between offices
